Dental emergencies are never fun – or convenient.

We’re here to help in your time of need. If you have a dental emergency during our business hours, we encourage you to call our office and stop by for an emergency evaluation. If your emergency happens after hours, call our office and our answering machine will provide you with our emergency contact information.

We understand that some dental issues and pain need to be dealt with promptly, that’s why we will see you as quickly as possible. Below you will find helpful information regarding a few types of common dental emergencies and ways to help avoid them.

 

Regular dental care visits help reduce emergency procedures

Dental emergencies can strike anyone, but our patients who commit to regular dental care visits present with significantly fewer problems over time. Professional dental exams at our practice allow us to bring a blend of proactive efforts to you.

When you visit our practice we review many aspects of your health before we clean your tooth surfaces. Things like chipped teeth, high sensitivity or sore gums could all be the beginnings of bigger problems down the road.

Regular dental visits prove vital in fixing and preventing decay and gum disease as you keep up your daily home teeth cleaning habits. Together, with a proactive approach, we can prevent many issues from becoming dental emergencies.

Managing Dental Emergencies
 

Damaged Teeth.

Locate and save the tooth or its fragments handling them as little as possible, avoid touching root portions. Briefly rinse the tooth with milk. If the tooth is not broken, try to reinsert it in its socket. If the tooth is broken or you cannot reinsert it, submerge it in milk. Time is critical. Call us immediately!

Broken Braces.

Take out any easily removed pieces, then cover any remaining sharp pieces with over-the-counter orthodontic wax. Broken appliances are rarely emergencies. However, If metal is stuck in your mouth tissue, do not attempt to remove it. Immediately call our office for emergency assistance.

Cuts & Aches.

Clean the affected area thoroughly, dislodging any impacted food or debris. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water or hydrogen peroxide diluted with water (50/50). If there is any visible swelling, apply a cold compress to the area. Next, call our office immediately for emergency assistance.
